GAATW Canada was established in September 1996 to address human trafficking and related issues, collaborating with organisations both locally and globally.

From a labour rights approach, GAATW Canada addresses human trafficking through research, policy, advocacy, education, and reciprocal collaboration. The organisation amplifies community and scholarly expertise to combat human trafficking by using evidence-based approaches that effectively support trafficked individuals while mitigating the harms associated with the rescue industry.
