GAATW E-bulletin 2016
- Category: E-Bulletin
At the start of a New Year...
We wish all our members, partners and friends a joyous and meaningful 2016. As in the past, we hope to continue working with all of you during this year too.
A highlight of 2015 for us was our Strategic Planning Meeting held in the last quarter of 2015. The meeting, a sequel to our 20th Anniversary Members Congress, brought together members of GAATW International Board and some expert advisors for three days of intensive discussion regarding the future course of the Alliance and the tasks to be undertaken by the Secretariat. We now have a comprehensive work plan for 2016-18 that validates our on-going work and adds exciting new dimensions. So while the Secretariat will continue to work on Accountability, Access to Justice and Power in Migration and Work, we will include new countries and regions in the programmes. We will also explore new themes through our research programme. Our Participatory Learning programme will be more structured and straddle more regions. Global and Regional thematic consultations with members and partners are lined up too. In order to ensure expert guidance for our work, Advisory Groups on Research, Communications and Advocacy have been added to the existing Advisory Group on Media. And most importantly, new colleagues are going to join the Secretariat. We received excellent responses to our vacancy announcements and are currently finalising the selection process. So in summary, 2016 is going to be a busy and exciting year at GAATW-IS. Look out for postings on our website, mailing lists, Facebook and Twitter!

Dear Members and Friends,
Greetings from the International Secretariat at the start of 2015! We are very much looking forward to the activities we have planned for the year. Launching the fourth issue of our AntiTrafficking Review looking at 15 years of the UN Trafficking Protocol; international advocacy opportunities at the 59th Commission on the Status of Women and UN Crime Congress; and working with groups on the ground through our project work in Asia and the Middle East to name just a few highlights coming up.
As we enter a new year, we have been reviewing our monthly ebulletin. We want to make sure this ebulletin is as useful and engaging to you as possible. We have therefore decided to send out more frequent and timely emails highlighting important news or opportunities for our work as an Alliance. We will then release longer ebulletins on a quarterly basis which will allow us to bring you more analytical articles, interviews and opinion pieces.
We would very much welcome your feedback on our new format in the coming months. What would you like to see in your ebulletin? What information do you find useful? And if you would like to contribute any content an interview, opinion piece or news about your work please do let us know.

Dear Members and Friends,
Greetings from GAATW International Secretariat.
Before the end of 2013, the GAATW-International Secretariat reflected on its work for the last three years of our project cycle. Inputs from our members about priorities for GAATW's future work suggest that we will continue with our thematic programmes on Accountability and on Power in Migration and Work.
This year we commemorate the 20th year of GAATW's journey! It has been a meaningful 20 years in which we have continuously demanded human rights for all migrating women, regardless of their work or legal status. For our 2014 e-Bulletin, we will honour the women whose vision of centring the knowledge, lived experiences and voices of migrating women and trafficked persons has materialized into this network. In each of our monthly issues, we will talk to one of our founding sisters about the early work of GAATW, the challenges and significant contributions of the Alliance to the Women's Rights Movement. And to highlight two decades of the Alliance's work, we will also feature the insights of long-time allies and advocates in their work promoting women's rights, labour rights and migrant rights around the world.

Dear Members and Friends,
Greetings from GAATW International Secretariat and welcome to our revamped and streamlined monthly e- bulletin. We have spent the last several weeks reviewing our communication strategies and making new plans to reach out to our diverse audience.
The plan is to use the E -Bulletin, Website, Members Mailing Lists, Facebook and our peer reviewed journal Anti - Trafficking Review optimally while adding other tools such as a regular blog and a twitter account.
The revamped e-bulletin will go out on the last day of every month as before but it will be shorter and each issue will have a thematic focus . For example, the focus for this issue is Violence against Women, especially women migrant workers. Each issue will have interviews or interview based pieces with two GAATW Members. The featured members in this issue are WOREC, Nepal and As ociatia Pro Refugiu , Romania. The resources cited link to the thematic focus of the bulletin.

Dear Members and Friends,
Greetings from GAATW International Secretariat.
As we enter the 2nd year of GAATW’s 3-year programme cycle for 2011-13, we note that 2012 brings important changes and opportunities for the international anti-trafficking community and for the GAATW International Secretariat.
This year, we will see the development of a Terms of Reference for a Review Mechanism to the UN Convention Against Transnational Organised Crime (UNTOC) and its protocols, including the Human Trafficking Protocol, at the 6th Conference of Parties to UNTOC in October. This represents a new space for civil society to hold governments accountable and to incorporate the voices of trafficked victims in shaping anti-trafficking responses.

Dear Members and Friends,
Greetings from the GAATW International Secretariat!
Welcome to the new year and a new programme cycle for GAATW! We hope the new year creates opportunities for a stronger and committed Alliance. We'll keep on bringing you updates and resources to continue opening up dialogue on urgent issues relating to the rights of migrant workers and trafficked persons.
We are sad to report the loss of a committed human rights lawyer and Chairperson of GAATW International Board, Khun Thongbai Thongpao from Thailand. Khun Thongbai, who passed away on 24 January, was a relentless defender of the rights of vulnerable and oppressed peoples and a fearless activist. He was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay prize for his public service in 1984 in recognition for his efforts in seeking law reform to ensure children's rights, freedom of the press and freedom from political persecution. However, he had refused to receive the award at the ceremony in protest against the Marcos regime in the Philippines. His valuable contributions and support to our work will be greatly missed and our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Dear Members and Friends,
We welcome you to the first issue of the e-Bulletin for 2010! We hope that you all had a great start for New Year.
We would also like to extend our deep sympathy to all those affected by the tragedy that hit Haiti this month. It’s disheartening to see the aftermath of the earthquake and we hope that sufficient relief operations reach the people who need it.
Reflecting on our work in 2009, we at the International Secretariat are grateful for your support in completing our planned activities and state interventions. We hope that the same enthusiasm and determination to support the Alliance will go on in the years ahead.

Dear Members and Friends,
Greetings from GAATW International Secretariat.
This year marks an important milestone for GAATW as we celebrate our 15-year anniversary.
Since GAATW was founded in 1994 by a group of women activists, the Alliance has been a strong advocate for a human rights-based approach in anti-trafficking work. Strengthened by the shared commitment of the Alliance, GAATW has grown into a mature network and has made many achievements in reaching international bodies, policy-makers and individuals across the world. Today, GAATW continues to be at the forefront in advocating for the rights of trafficked and migrant persons.
We take the opportunity to thank our members, allies and friends for being part of this meaningful, collective journey. We look forward to the years ahead to continue to work for the change we envision.
Over the years, we have watched the e-Bulletin grow and evolve to bring you updated and relevant information on trafficking and migration issues. We appreciate the continued growth of the readership – now over 600 people.
